Bob Denver, beloved TV star, died from complications arising from treatment of Cancer on September 2nd, 2005. Denver was best known as the lovable, industrious but inept castaway Gilligan from Gilligan’s island which aired originally from 1964 to 1967 but found a wider audience during its many years in syndication.
While Denver was best known for his Gilligan role, his 50 year acting career included The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis (1959-63), The Good Guys (1968-70), Dusty's Trail (1973) and Far Out Space Nuts (1975). In the late '70s he returned to the stage in the lead role in Woody Allen's Play it Again, Sam. Denver has also appeared in small roles in feature films and in several versions of later Gilligan's Island and Dobie Gillis revivals.
Denver’s portrayal of Gilligan touched the hearts of countless millions. He will live on in the hearts of fans for many years to come. He will be missed. He leaves behind his wife, Dreama, and children Patrick, Megan, Emily and Colin. May he rest in peace. |
