Joni Lynn Poulson was born with two holes in her heart. She was a beautiful charismatic girl that won everyones heart. She was admitted to Children's Hospital in Columbus,Ohio nearly every month in her first year of life with congestive heart failure. Within 5 years she had 6 heart catherizations, yet she never lost her smile. Joni was one of the favorites of her Cardiologist, Dr. Douglas Teske. She was not expected to live but God in His mercy loaned us an angel for awhile.
In June of 1985, Joni was the feature child of Children's Hospital National Miracle Telethon. Her photogenic smiling face with the long braids and missing tooth touched hearts everywhere as she said, "You can make a miracle, go to your phones and call right now."
The Children's Miracle Telethon paid off a debt of $17,000 that I was left with after the insurance paid their portion for the V.S.D. & A.S.D. teflon patch repairs. I had already signed a contract that would have taken the rest of my life to pay. Ronald McDonald House & Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio are my two favorite charities.
On November 13, 1996 Joni was killed when the pick-up truck she was a passenger in struck 3 horses in the roadway killing her and the horses. She was in her Senior year at John Glenn High School in New Concord, Ohio. One horse had sheared the roof of the truck almost completely off. The driver was knocked unconscience and the truck continued on for 150 yards through a field and off the road before coming to a stop at a tree... The signed contract that I had to release a National Single of the song I wrote and the trip back to Nashville, Tennessee was not to be. I could not sing, no matter how I tried. After a long time of counseling I was told that I would always suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The horses had been kept in a barn with no fence around it. They had been out on the road repeatedly in the 2 years previous to this accident.Joni & I both love horses, so in memory of Laddie, Ivy and Star -
Please if you have animals - keep them confined!
I have worked through the anguish of this horrible tragedy somewhat, but it has taken many years. God even sent a pilgrim, to help me. Pilgrim George, is a man who has spent many hours walking (41 countries now) talking to God and to those whom God leads him to minister to. It was this meeting and our talk, that led me to create my website: Randles Station. I have shared the songs with the entire world that Joni and Pilgrim George were so proud of. You see money isn't everything, but love is.
December 2009 -I am now back to song writing and doing some singing.
This is a new song...My angel lives and will sing with me again...
One Little Candle
I lit a candle tonight, in honor of you
Remembering your life, and all the times we'd been through
Such a small little light the candle made..until I realized how much in darkness it lit the way
All the tears I've cried in all my grief, anger and pain
What a garden they grew, watered with human rain
I sometimes can't see beyond the moment, in hopeless despair
But then your memory sustains me, in heartaches repair
I can wait for the tomorrow, when my sorrows ease
Until then I'll light this candle, and let my memories run free
My angel has grown wings but I still miss the light of my life and the joy of my days. Years go by but the sadness never goes away
Thank you for lighting a candle for Joni
