Judy Abbott
1934 - 2005



Caryl Florence "Judy" Abbott, age 70, of Osawatomie, Kansas died May 30, 2005 at the Live Care Center in Osawatomie.

Judy was born December 16, 1934 at Jersey City, New Jersey. She was the daughter of Winthrop H. and Muriel Caryl (Heslin) Moore. She attended a Catholic Convent School in New Hampshire.

She was married to William Nels Blomgren in the mid 50's in Oklahoma. Their marriage ended in divorce in the mid 60's.

She was married to James Ramsey Abbott on April 5, 1976. They made their home in Osawatomie. James preceded her in death on Novemeber 13, 2000.

She began working at the Osawatomie State Hospital as a program aide on November 14, 1979. On July 1, 1980, she was promoted to Program Assistant II. She transferred her position on April 18, 1981 when she became the Osawatomie State Hospital library clerk. Then on September 18, 1984 she began working as an alcohol counselor and was promoted again on June 18, 1994 to a Chemical Dependency Counselor. She was a devoted friend of Bill W. She retired on September 27, 1995.

Her hobbies included cooking, volunteering, and reading. Judy was an avid garage sale shopper, too. She was a member of the Kansas Historical Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a daughter, Becky, who died in infancy.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and David McGee of Osawatomie; 4 grandchildren: Paige Pagnotta of Osawatomie, Amy Bard of Dublin, New Hampshire, Amanda and Amber McGee both of Shawnee; 2 great grandchildren and other friends and relatives.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 4, 2005 at Uniontown Cemetery, Uniontown, Kansas. She will lie in state after 1 p.m. Friday and the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be David McGee, Rex Myers, George Brecht, Mark Schlenker, Yancey Klingenberg, and Dave Achey. Honorary pallbearers will be Art Butler, John Huffman, Gary David Huffman, Jared Schlenker, and Donnie Ward. Memorials are to the Osawatomie Library.
