1948 - 2004

Rick James was born James Ambrose Johnson Jr. in Buffalo, N.Y., on Feb. 1, 1948, the third child of eight born to James and Mabel Gladden Johnson. He is survived by three sons; Rick Jr., Ty and Tazman and two granddaughters, Jasmine and Charisma. As Rick James, he was one of the most colorful entertainers in black American music.
