SHIRLEY JEAN HINCHMAN WOODDELL, age 72 years, a resident of the Faulkner Community, Elkins, WV departed this life Thursday afternoon, August 20, 2009 at her home.
She was born Wednesday, March 10, 1937 at Elkins, WV, a daughter of the late Oney Stark Hinchman and Margaret Marie Gardner Hinchman. On May 10, 1955 at Elkins, WV she was married to Fredrick Lee “Fred” Wooddell, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Fredrick Eugene “Gene” Wooddell, and Michael Lee Wooddell, both of Elkins; one daughter, Anita Ann Hanifan, Elkins; four brothers, Donald Lee Hinchman and wife Betty, Beverly; Robert Lynn Hinchman and wife Betty, Chenoweth Creek; Richard Lee Hinchman and wife Nellie, Gallipolis, OH; Jack Wayne Hinchman, Elkins; three sisters; Dortha Mae Summerfield and husband Cletus, Beverly; Betty Austin and husband Donnie, Front Royal, VA; Debbie Harris and husband Kenneth, Chenoweth Creek; three grandchildren, Ashley Wooddell; Cynthia and Jenna Hanifan and several nieces and nephews including Rick Wooddell, Paw Paw, WV.
Preceding her in death are two brothers, Ernest Oney “Bud” and Billy Joe Hinchman.
Shirley was a graduate of Elkins High School, was a homemaker and a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church. She loved her family more than anything, and spent her life taking care of God's Special Child, her precious Gene. She also loved the outdoors, camping, flowers and her sorority, Beta Sigma Phi, having held several offices, and having been elected Queen one year.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Monday, August 24, 2009, and final Rites were conducted at the funeral home chapel, Tuesday, August 25, 2009. The Reverend Leon H. Hevener officiated and interment followed at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, WV.
